 In many romance [[lb:aristocratic]] media, there is typically a girl, the villainess, who bullies the protagonist for getting close to the male leads andor inconveniences the protagonist in other ways. From what I understand, Otome games (dating games aimed at girls) have turned this character into a standard, easily-identifiable archetype.\\

   * My means of distinguishing between "sub-genre" and "genre" is almost entirely arbitrary. Genres have a much clearer picture of what you get, while sub-genres are more variable. I think.
   * I believe the first of these was //Otome Gēmu no Hametsu Furagu Shika Nai Akuyaku Reijō ni Tensei Shite Shimatta…// (//My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!//), or at least popularized the genre. I haven't really researched it so I don't know.
