Touhou Luna Nights is a Touhou-themed metroidvania that was so good I ended up buying it after finishing a pirated version.
You play as Sakuya Izayoi, who finds herself trapped in a ‘game’ version of the Scarlet Devil Mansion with her abilities toned down. All for the sake of her mistress’ whims.

This game could be what helped get me into Touhou – a necessary stepping-stone from the music to the games and stories.
