This is a reframing of setup/payoff which can be more useful in a specific scenario.
This idea mostly comes from here, though I’m going to summarize it.

Basically, when you’re recounting your own story structure, you should avoid having the word ‘and’ occur between events: ‘Jack fell and Martha was sad’ and, instead, you should have the word therefore: ‘Jack fell therefore Martha was sad’.
This is why I say it’s just a reframing of setup/payoff and more of a tool than its own thing. However, it’s very useful for getting a feel for setup/payoff…or cause/effect if you prefer. It’s also useful when nesting structures.
