Affinity Suite
The Affinity product suite was a collection of software for graphics design, photo editing and desktop publishing. It consisted of Designer, Photo and Publisher.
The suite was developed by a company called Serif, which was later bought by Canva. Canva then had them merge the three into one product (simply called Affinity), which is now available for free (with a Canva account!).
This change had the effect of seriously displeasing me, to the point that I am now looking for alternatives.
It seems like Canva forgot that what granted the Affinity suite a large amount of its value was the fact you could pay a one-time price to own the software forever. Now, though, it’s effectively the same as a subscription service, which destroyed its value.
I’ll continue using the Affinity 2 lineup, but only until I find something suitable to replace them with. Which, of course, I want a one-time payment for: not open-source and not subscription-based.
