Compact Cassette
The Compact Cassette is likely the second most successful physical music format, beaten only by the Compact Disc.
The cassette was created by Belgians for Philips. It became a global standard because Sony convinced Philips to give them and others free licensing. This only worked because Sony threatened to use Gründig’s rival format, the DC International.
