Frigg
Frigg is a Norse goddess and the wife of Odin. I don’t know much about her, except that she and Freyja used to be the same person at some point.1)
Relations
Freyja
This entire article is basically about how they’re basically the same person, so this section is possibly pointless. Unless I decide to reorganize the page.
Hera
Frigg and Hera are both Queen goddesses married to the big boss…so this is a logical connection to make.

Speculah & Analysis
Freyja/Frigg Split
Norse Mythology for smart people mentions that Freyja/Frigg being separate people was very tenuous. Also that it’s not clear why it was happening and that it only happened among the Norse.
Obviously…I’m not an expert, so think of this as pure speculah…but maybe it was related to Freyja being unfaithful in regards to Odin? Frigg is also (apparently) depicted as unfaithful, but the impression I’m getting is that she isn’t as promiscuous…so maybe the Norse wanted to separate Frigg/Freyja specifically for this reason…but this separation process never ended up being finished. Alternatively, they were separating them for some other reason and Frigg being more faithful? ended up being an unintended side-effect.
This could mirror Hades possibly originally being Poseidon.A) Hades took control of Hades away from Poseidon and, since he was really new…he ended up just being a chill guy who loved his wife.
Worldbuilding Notes
Merging with Freyja
It’s probably cleanest to just get rid of Frigg and replace her with Freyja entirely. Though I don’t know of any examples where this happens.
Distinguishing from Freyja
If you’re like me, you might try to foolishly differentiate the two of them…but how do you go about doing this?
For now, the only thing that really comes to mind is…
Emphasizing Faithfulness
This is a way that some scholars apparently distinguish the two of them.1)
Though I guess I should elaborate that some people distinguish Frigg from Freyja by saying Frigg is 100% faithful. As far as I’m concerned, this isn’t terribly important. Frigg can still be depicted as unfaithful on a few occasions, while not being someone who sleeps around like Freyja. Think GuinevereB) rather than…uh…slut.
One way that a writer could go about it is by having Frigg be unfaithful in response to something Odin does. Basically a petty revenge. You could think of it as a variation on what Hera does in response to Zeus’ sleeping around…just, in reverse kinda.
Æsir & Vanir
Something else that’s important to note is that Frigg and Freyja are not listed under the same group of gods. Frigg is an Æsir and Freyja’s a Vanir. Though what the differences between these two are is not very clear. That’s where you come in.
If you find a way to differentiate the two of those, then differentiating Frigg from Freyja is a little easier. Potentially.
Not Distinguishing or Merging
This is a scenario that I thought up which is potentially quite hilarious, which is why I’m mentioning it here.
Instead of merging Frigg with Freyja, or going out-of-our-way to differentiate them…why not just…not? Keep their characterizations virtually identical and then watch the fireworks.
Keep in mind that while they’re basically the same person, they’re also treated as separate characters and aren’t even the same species(?) or clan(?).
The potential here for all kinds of mischief is immense. Maybe most of the gods have trouble differentiating them. Maybe the two of them get incredibly offended if you mistake one for the other.
