This is an old revision of the document!

Norse Mythology

Norse Mythology comprises the mythology/folklore of the Vikings, mostly, but it also refers to the mythology of the Germanic peoples pre-Christianization as a whole.

Due to the viking association, Norse Mythology is generally considered to be the ā€˜manliest’ of mythologies.

Media Depictions

The Circumstances Leading to Waltraute's Marriage

The Circumstances Leading to Waltraute's Marriage was for a while the only thing listed as depicting Norse Mythology. Somewhat amusingly, this is also probably the only (non-Marvel) depiction that I ended up experiencing for a long time.

Sword Art Online

One of the ALfheim arcs of SAO takes cues from Norse Mythology. I’m pretty sure it’s the one between the end of Phantom Bullet and the start of Mother’s Rosario. Actually, I just checked and I think it’s called Calibur.

Also, I almost forgot, but the world of ALfheim specifically depicts the world tree Yggdrasil.

Toaru Project

I can’t actually remember any explicit references to Norse Mythology in the Toaru Project, but I would find it strange if there were none. Especially considering the author – Kamachi Kazama – also wrote Waltraute.

Tolkien's Legendarium

The Legendarium is very explicitly inspired by Norse Mythology, down to having its own version of Ragnarƶk.

Several terms are Nordic in origin as well, though this is obvious.

I may write more if I ever get the motivation.

WarCraft

Warcraft’s pantheon of titans is borrowed from Norse Mythology wholesale, though it becomes more and more infuriating as time goes on. Since I don’t recognize WoW as canon though, I’m not gonna bother explaining anything else.
