Resident Evil
ćć¤ćŖćć¶ć¼ć(Biohazard), known as Resident Evil in English,A) is a survival-horror game series about zombies that I quite like, despite not having played much of it.
Silent Hill can be considered an early rival series, though Silent Hill hasā¦wellā¦not had a great time comparatively.
Reviews
In General
What makes Resident Evil so interesting, in comparison to all other zombie fiction, is that it never goes the route of a zombie apocalypse. Each game is focused on small(ish) localized outbreaks which are quickly(ish) contained. Civilization as a whole is rarely at risk in Resident Evilā¦and most of life goes on as normal. The closest RE has ever gotten to a zombie apocalypse was in Resident Evil 6, followed by Resident Evil 2. I mean, outbreaks are so uncommon that the same group of people keeps appearing to deal with them and even the average SWAT officer/soldier seems incapable of fighting BOWs, indicating that outbreaks really are rare.
On top of that, almost everything in the franchise ends on an optimistic note. There is always the hope that this will be the last outbreak and that the world will, ultimately, be fine. The only two exceptions I can think of are Marhawa Desire, where the Main Characterās life is essentially changed forever and Resident Evil Damnation. The latter, however, was leading directly into Resident Evil 6 and the pessimistic ending was a really big deal.
That optimism is great for another reason: as pointed out by The 4th Snake, this means that if Resident Evil ever endsā¦we can rest easy knowing that the characters we love will be fine.
There is a slight snag in REās optimism thoughā¦there are basically zero cures for any of the diseases that exist. So while thereās always hope the world will be fineā¦the diseases themselves are quite deadly and every character infected will remain infected. Forever.
Resident Evil CG Movies
There are a total of 6 CG movies. Excluding the first (4D Executor), the second (Biohazard 5: Incubate) and the last (Death Island)ā¦because I havenāt seen themā¦the CG films can be summarized as ādumb, but funā.
Now, that doesnāt make them good and, honestly, theyāre mediocre. They all have the same set of problemsā¦in that main characters like Leon have obvious plot armor and the plots are āoffā or just weird. That said, they all have the same advantages: the animation is nice and the fight scenes are nice. Theyāre all silly and, well, funā¦like watching Face/Off.
If you like Leon action, then youāre getting Leon action.
Degeneration
Of the 3 films, this is the weakest probably, but itās also the only one with Claire in it, so itās actually one of the strongest.
The weirdest part of this film is that it introduces a fourth romance target for Leon for some reasonā¦dudeās already overwhelmed by Ada, Claire, Ashley and Chris,B) give the guy a break.
Leon is more no-nonsense here than in RE4, RE6 or Damnation. Itās kinda off, but heās still a badass so Iāll let it slide.
Damnation
Damnation was setup for Resident Evil 6, as Leon goes directly into it. Kinda.
This film introduces a new locationā¦some random Eastern European country that doesnāt exist in real life. It also has Ada in it.
Of the three, this is probably the least bad one, in that it doesnāt have too many weird elements, the plot makes sense and there are just a few instances of plot armor. Also, cat fight.
This introduces a version of the Tyrant that is huge and practically immortal.
Notable also for not ending on an optimistic note.
Vendetta
If it didnāt have Rebecca in it, it would probably be the worst.
This time we have Chris, Leon and Rebecca all in a film together. Leon is depressed due to an off-screen incident, causing him to lose his eternal optimism.
The film has nice action, the animation is obviously the best among the three films and the plot makes a little senseā¦the ending though. Iām not saying anything, but it definitely ruins a film that was pretty good until then.
