Starcraft
Starcraft is an RTS game franchise created by Blizzard. It’s basically Warcraft with a different coat of paint. But! That doesn’t mean it’s bad!
It differentiates itself by portraying hillbillies in space. That’s all you need to know, everything else is just a bonus.
In the past, I would have listed Starcraft among my favorites, but I’m honestly no longer sure if that’s the case. I don’t actually know much about the story in the first game – because I haven’t played the campaigns – and I don’t particularly like the story of the second game. I’m attracted to Starcraft 2 mostly because it’s Warcraft 3 with quality-of-life features. But then I prefer to play Warcraft 3 anyway.

Starcraft
I haven’t played the game extensively, though I do remember having some fun with it. I made an attempt to return to it more recently but, well, the game is kinda clunky to play through nowadays. I might consider playing a Starcraft 2 custom campaign to go through the story, but probably not.
The music, especially Terran 1…iconic.
Starcraft 2
The gameplay is pretty solid…but I’d say it’s a tiny bit inferior to Warcraft 3 because some features were removed and I have a suspicion as to why.
The story is actually complete garbage here and it really doesn’t surprise me that the writer was Chris Metzen. Anybody telling you the story is good is either delusional, ignorant or lying.
Though I will note that I do still like parts of the game: I think Wings of Liberty is great gameplay-wise and there was a point in time where I thought the story was okay.

- This is probably one of the best critiques of a story I’ve seen and, as far as I know, is the only major critique of Starcraft 2’s story. I highly recommend watching it.
- I’ve learned a little more about Nova and I am now kinda depressed that she’s so bland in the games.
