Paycheck
Paycheck is a sci-fi movie directed by John Woo. Thatās about all you need to know, so go watch it.
I kid. Itās based on a story by Philip K. Dick (Blade Runner) so you should definitely watch itā¦unless youāre someone like me who recognizes that Blade Runner isnāt great and is skeptical of anything else.
We follow a guy who was tasked with working on a secret corporate project for a massive paycheck. However, to protect corporate secrets, his memory would be erased after the fact. After losing his memory and happily accepting his paycheckā¦he finds his paycheck bouncedā¦and then people try to kill him.
Review
Paycheck falls under what I call āsilly actionā, which are action films that donāt take themselves too seriously. Sadly, this type of film seems to have died out and was only really a thing in the 90s/2000s. Other films that Iād place under this label include Face/Off (naturally), The Rock, Demolition Man and The Punisher.
The plot is pretty solid and it all somewhat fits together. The time stuff also pretty much fits together as far as I remember.
Iām honestly not sure what else to say. I do think that this is one of the better John Woo films and definitely the best Philip K. Dick adaptation that Iāve seen.
