シン・ゴジラ(New Godzilla) is a film about Japanese Politicians trying to deal with Godzilla appearing out of nowhere…and failing spectacularly.

A minor note, other than Godzilla 1999 I have not watched any Godzilla films.^A)

The film’s CG is really bad at the beginning and…it doesn’t really improve during the film, it just gets used less. In contrast, the Gozilla suit looks great.

I found that the plot was a bit hard to follow. It kinda just bounced around until we got to the point where they started beating Godzilla.
Some people might say that it spends too much time making fun of Japanese politics and not enough on Godzilla or…other stuff. I would agree with those people. Though the jokes at the expense of Japanese politicians are all pretty funny. I especially liked the one involving them relocating multiple times.

Now that I’m a bit older and removed from when I first watched it…I think the film is kinda pretentious. It takes itself super seriously and takes the plot super seriously when often it’s just kinda…stupid. I think the plan to fight Godzilla was idiotic and they would have achieved more by just using the bunker-busters again.
I’m especially saying this since my opinion of the director (Hideaki Ano – also made Neon Genesis Evangelion) has soured, so I can see his pretension loud and clear now.
