Taiga
Taiga is a Windows application for anime tracking that works shockingly well. If I hadn’t discovered Taiga, I probably wouldn’t be tracking anime as meticulously as I do nowadays.
It requires an account on either MyAnimeList, AniList, or Kitsu.
Personal Evaluation
I like using it and find it comfortable to use. The native Windows interface with its icons actually make it fit with my Windows 7-ish theme, so I prefer it over alternatives.
That said, I can’t help but feel there are some severe limitations here.
I’ve been using Taiga for a bit more than just anime tracking (and no, not torrenting). Specifically, I use it as my anime list editor in general. I don’t actually remember the last time I edited an entry thru the web interface on AniList. However, this is partially because AniList’s interface sucks and not necessarily because Taiga is exceptional.
If Taiga went a bit further into being a desktop interface for tracking platforms…it would become very useful very fast.
Feature Requests
This is a list of features that I think Taiga could seriously benefit from, but which haven’t been implemented.
- Custom Lists (customizing the list)
- Alternative views for anime in the anime list
- What I mean by this is a thumbnail view (for example), or other ListView views. Currently we only have details.
- Being able to properly filter by genre/producer and being able to click on specific ones to show all under that type.
- More things like the seasons view.
- The seasons view shows thumbnails plus details in a very specific blah blah rewrite.
- Characters/staff.
- User comments and reviews.
